The Wild Ginger Inn is nestled in Downtown Hilo, canopied by ancient trees and caressed by ocean breezes. Constructed in 1911 and largely untouched since then, guests won’t find many modern resort amenities here but a unique Hawaiian accommodation experience long erased from the Island.

Initial ideas displaying potential visual solutions with type and imagery. Highlighting special elements like the wild ginger flower and Hawai’i.
After multiple reiterations with feedback from the client, we decided upon a final concept keeping a script typeface, incorporating the wild ginger flower, and enclosing it all in a house shape to represent the homeyness of the inn.
Once the main logo had been approved, I also created a horizontal signature version. Then I extended the branding to all print materials including business cards, letterheads, and envelopes.
I noticed their current signage consisted of temporary prints and/or handwritten posters. I mocked up an alternate system that can be potentially used to strengthen their branding and improve navigation overall.
